Mentoring & Fundraising

Go For Glass (GFG) has fundraising opportunities in our home state of Washington, but we are now extending opportunities to high-needs chapters elsewhere. Although not excluding other areas, we are currently giving preference to smaller chapters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and surrounding areas as GFG hopes to become a longer-term presence in the region.

Students will be invited to an online workshop that explains in detail the different free resources available from Go For Glass and the best ways to utilize them. Over the season, students will also be invited to workshops aimed at building ICDC PM papers. If your chapter has a lot of students competing in a different category, we will attempt to find a GFG volunteer that can help. If additional mentors are available, some limited one-on-one mentoring may also be offered.

Go For Glass will provide seed money for chapter fundraisers that are being used for competition PM papers. We will likely do a handful of smaller grants in addition to a medium sized payout, but it’ll depend on what fundraiser ideas we see come through.

  • The free Go For Glass resources are often enough to make a big difference. Recently a chapter in Alabama adopted Go For Glass as their main study source and went from rarely sending students to ICDC to having the entire chapter qualify.

    GFG Workshops, paper reviews, and 1:1 mentoring sessions will improve your chances even further. Note: the 1:1 mentoring will be dependent on mentor workloads.

    This initiative also enables compelling competition projects that students may use.

    A win at DECA can greatly change a student’s trajectory, and our goal is to extend that opportunity to students with fewer resources.

  • GFG will prioritize teams based on need, potential fundraiser effectiveness, student enthusiasm, advisor support, logistical feasibility, location, and local market.

  • Chapters are responsible for school approval, facilities requests, student coordination, and money handling through school-approved processes. Advisors need to sign off on logistics and financial oversight, but students should expect to lead most of the work.

  • Go For Glass is a support organization that has no official partnership with DECA. That said, the founder performing the mentoring is heavily involved in DECA, and has been an official judge at both state and ICDC levels.

  • Every adult on the Go For Glass side that will come into contact with the students either in person or online will apply as a volunteer with the chapter’s school and go through standard verification

    We will implement other processes as needed to satisfy other school requirements.
