Our Founding Story | Lorelei Rosser - Founder
I get asked pretty frequently why I started Go For Glass. Students assume it to be related to my time at ICDC, with not wanting my wonder year to be over. However, it actually started earlier. At my school, I had access to alumni, textbooks, and an advisor who was my staunch advocate. Even my bus driver was a retired marketing director who gave frequent feedback on my paper. My biggest hurdle to overcome was my shyness. When you come from a background with access to that much support, it's easy to forget your privilege. To me, that shyness felt like an insurmountable obstacle.
After the 2023 State awards ceremony, I spoke with other peers in my event from less privileged areas of the state. In particular, I met a competitor from Eastern Washington. While I was struggling with my shyness, he was struggling to raise money to even attend the state conference. His chapter didn't have textbooks, and DECA was a club, so they didn't have an advisor with a business background. I remember how eloquently he explained his situation, with a natural confidence that would have made him a formidable contender even in the most privileged districts.
His struggles didn't diminish my own, and mine didn't diminish his. His story stuck with me, and when I started Go For Glass, I did it with his story in mind.
Go For Glass's resources are accessible to anyone with an internet connection. No paywalls, ever. We have students from well-off backgrounds and those who receive free lunch. We have students in their first year and those in their last. We have students who struggle to make eye contact and those who will confidently present in front of thousands. We have students who are natural-born testers and those who need more support. Every student we support is a potential leader in their own chapter.
